Perceptions of Macro- and Micro-Level Factors Predict COVID-19 Self-Reported Health and Safety Guidelines Adherence

Abstract. Introduction: Adherence to Covid-19 safety measures reduces the spread of pathogen and lowers mortality rates. The present study examines microlevel (including sociodemographics, health risk factors, mental health) perceived macrolevel variables freedom, justice, wealth) concerning self-perceived self-reported measure adherence across eight countries. Methods: Self-reported its potential predictors were assessed in representative samples from countries (total N = 7,437; Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Russia, Sweden, UK, US) by online surveys (end May 2020 beginning June 2020). Results: was positively predicted female sex, higher age, social status, belonging a group, being personally affected (physically, economically, mentally), positive health. negatively depression anxiety. Perceptions governmental communication as credible honest, government guided political interests, feeling well informed, country-level freedom adherence. Perceived justice adherence, country-wide wealth unrelated it. Conclusions: COVID-19 protocols is depression, anxiety, not wealth.
